Iv'e seen a lot odd thing happening with direcrtories.. Only seems to be the generic one ? What people's opinions.. IF PR is 7 or higher then investigate ?
my directory is still surviving, maybe its because the directory is on a sub-domain and is not a domain built for the purpose of a directory? its also pr 4
I doubt a sites PR would get it removed from Google. They probably got too many links too fast and that's why they got removed.
I think some of the larger high PR dirs were offering instant links, ie hotvsnot.com. This would probably make it a link farm in G's eyes. I would think these removals are done manually to discourage such systems, but I don't know. It could be automated.
I think if too high a % of your inbounds come from High PR sites, it raises a red flag. Lots of sitewides is probably not a good thing either. Being only a directory may not be good, might be wise to add other features to the site as well.
No it's not that, I think the original poster has raised some important questions - but no one seems to know the answer. Popular sites such as: webatlas.org bluefind.com Have lost their PR rating (which was in the 7/8 Level)..why?
I know that bluefind was consistently on the Google "radar" before it was removed. They were actually removed and then reinstated several times. I don't think it is necessarily a pagerank issue. It has to do more with practices that appear to be meant to manipulate SERPS. Any site, not just directories, can be banned.
Get your facts straight. webatlas.org never had PR. The site was banned a week or so before there first PR update.
I hate to tell you this but webatlas.org never had PR..... never. If you don't belive me go ask Nandini herself.
She did, but I'll be quiet...Jon Bon. My question is how you got a PR 8!! I see future preductons still give you a PR 6, but still it's quite high
She did what???? http://www.v7n.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16664 Banned around 12/28 and the PR update came on 12/31 or 1/1.
