Hello IMers, Just wondering …. How have the Google's updates to their indexing algorithms (Hummingbird, Panda, Penguin, Popadom, Platypus, Pitbull etc.) affected you personally? I for one know that crappy/shoddy stuff is being thrown away and reader-oriented, quality and coherent content is more in demand but that's just a part of the whole story. What are the most prominent and significant changes you have made to your websites/blogs esp. after these updates were announced? I know Google's constantly changing indexing techniques can be a pain in the neck esp. from the SEO point of view. Is it all just about modifying keywords, tags and SEO in general or there's more to it? Have you tried any sources of traffic other than Google? Well, just interested in exploring and learning various perspectives of the situation in any case. Thanks everyone in advance.
Here's the entire timeline of how Google changed their search algos over the years – http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change. 500-600 times!!!!???? Scares the sh1t outta me! D:< >:O
Penguin hit me hard last time on my one of the (was a money making machine for meh) site! Yeh, i know there was my mistakes somewhere, that's why i got punishment by that animal! Additionally, I did tried to earn from an affiliate marketing and social media too. Well, changing the algo periodically hits you hard (Even me) ! That's why i built up a backup plan to survive with this Zoo Animals of Google
I dont worry that much about Gooogle changes they always wanna to show their ZOOkeeping powers!Use paid advertising thats all i do! But when it comes to ranking it matters people who wants organically rank on 1-10 pages,,so it affect IMers anyway! but ready to share updates stuff always all going be good i hope!!!
So what exactly was your backup plan then? What were the changes you made to your marketing plan, traffic-generation strategy and revenue model? Have you made any structural changes to your websites? And how are you preparing yourself for the projected updates that will follow? Sorry, too many questions at once but I'm really looking forward to some inputs. Thanks.
“they always wanna to show their ZOOkeeping powers!” - So you mean Google is doing all these changes to their algos just to brag?? Well, paid advertising sounds good but have you been able to generate substantial traffic from it? (Not that I doubt it but at least I haven't heard anyone saying they're doing good with it.) Which specific platforms have you used for paid ads? And I guess the changes to algos affect everyone, not only IMers – everyone who owns and runs a website/blog wants it to be ranked high, isn't it?
A good read on the Pigeon algo I just stumbled across – http://www.ingenioussem.com/blog/comprehensive-guide-to-googles-pigeon-update/.
