    I have a website with which I am having some PR problems;

    The site is http://www.gimmeitfree.co.uk and the home page is PR2

    Now the bit that I don't understand, I have several pages that are used as redirects such as;

    http://www.gimmeitfree.co.uk/freemobiles and http://www.gimmeitfree.co.uk/freekit

    These two web addresses have a PR or PR3

    I have spent a lot of time optimizing and getting backlinks for the home page and have managed to get it to PR2 but the other pages which I have not optimized or backlinked at all have higher PR's

    Does anyone know why?

    This is a common thing: especially when the home page do not have a high PR. I personally see this in my sites.

    Internal pages often can outrank the home page PR.

    I suggest that you do not worry about this: PR is just one of the 200 factors that Google consider while ranking a site.

    Thanks Angilina

    I'm not worried apart from the fact that I put a lot of effort into my homepage and now I see a page that doesn't even have an index page, it is purely for redirection, and it is outranking my homepage.

    Google is a strange beast

    Probably you have more backlinks to the inner page?

    1. Register yourself an account with Google Webmaster Tools.
    2. Add your web site to Google Webmaster Tools.
    3. Verify your web site ownership to Google Webmaster Tools.
    4. Use GWT to get a list of external links to each page on your web site.
    5. Check the PageRank of every external page that is linking to each of your pages.

    That process will often provide the answers to your question.

    It is quite common, but as to the reason i don't know. It seems to go against everything that google suggests for good optimisation

    You can have backlink better on inner pages than your homepage. Don't worry, the most important is that visitors find your site.
