How hard would it be to transfer websites from host to host?

I'm thinking about getting in on that Netfirms $10 hosting deal, and I'm hoping a coupon will come up before the yearly renewal. I don't want to have to pay $150 for a year of hosting next year. So, let's say that another coupon or deal doesn't come up in the next year, how hard would it be to transfer all of the files to a new host? Note: there will be multiple domains that point to the folders.

does this site use any scripting or databases? does it have a single connection script page, functions page, or variable page that you can change all paths quickly?

if it does, download the entire structure and take a backup copy of the db and reupload to the new host.

of course, netfirms may offer a site transfer for a small fee and they will do it all...

I'm going to install a script called Textpattern three times in each separate folder and point a domain at each one. I'd guess it'd be easy to change where everything points at after I upload all the files to the new host.

I'm not really good with databases, would I have to go into each database and change where everything points to? Or would that be script-dependant?
