I am curious as to how difficult it is to design a myspace.com kind of site. Where you have users create a profile, design there own layout, etc. I saw these two high schoolers that created myyearbook.com , I am assuming it is kind of like myspace, now they are worth a million dollars. Is it difficult to create it on you're own? or are you able to hire web designers to do such a job. Thanks.
Problem is, there are so many of these myspace clones popping up I think it'd be pretty difficult to make a go of - unless, of course, you're planning to do something very different, yet with a myspace sort of feel and functionality ... ;-)
Depends what you mean by "design"..... to design a layout then it is relatively simple. If you are talking about getting one up and running it will depend if you want to use an off the shelf solution in which case it is also relatively simple but to have something totally bespoke is naturally much more complex. If by design you mean creating a successful site then it is very difficult.... social networking sites are two a penny and so how you get yours noticed and popular is a major challenge as typical to any site based on user contributions you require users contributing to get new users to contribute. You therefore really need a very well defined niche that has been well targeted or a very powerful unique selling point.
it's not that difficult now..you have features, know some level of design...any designer will do it for you...but to make it a success you need money , professionals and luck
The Designing isn't really hard. But the Coding would be Harder. Unless you have that Myspace clone. Than you only need to code the Design so it fitst in that Myspace Clone.
The hardest part would be promoting your site. As many other people have already said, they are to many MySpace / Facebook / Hi5 clone sites available. Many people would tend to stick to the big boys and not bother signing up to "clone" sites.
coding a my space type site from scratch will set you back about $18,000 probably more! there's so many dynamics in these kinds of sites. i suggest buying the code and modifying it if possible.. but yet again this gives people no reason to come to your site in particular if it's a clone... seiously think about this before you start throwing cash at it... because in my experience you won't get what you want in return.. and the SEO would have to kick some serious clone azz to even get people to view your site
