    Hi guys.

I am starting a few sites and am toying with the idea of using wordpress for these sites.

Does it restrict me in what I can do on the page in regards to formatting.

And how hard is it to get a template made and installed?

No it's very easy to add a list box or side column. You can have a page with 2 or 3 columns and I have a links column on the right hand side. It was very easy to do. This is my BLOG at wordpress if you want to take a look and see for your self. http://makeinternetmarketingeasy.com

By featured listing I mean (will try to explain it) Just say I am offering free stuff listings, at the top of the page I want a featured listing area that will be a different color to the rest of the page.

It's not a side column but more of an area that stands out more to the rest of the page.

    umm. . . check out www.freegiveaways.co.nz/freebies.html

    Thats what I mean.

Don't laugh at the design that is just me playing with some ideas

Yes, very easy ... you can do it even with html editor like "adobe dreamviewer", you just remove what you don't like in wordpress.

I would suggest you to choose 1column template and remove everything BUT "pages". Actually it's very easy.

Yeah I know html a bit - not really up with CSS yet though.

I'm trying to set up a website for squash northland - A not for profit - and would really appreciate some help if anyone can.

their current site is www.squashnorthland.co.nz (hasn't been updated for a few years) I just need a new header I think and then a basic design, then I want to upload it to wordpress so dum (or less computer literate) can upload it easy enough

Well, it would be better if you know some HTML basics while designing your blog. But, WordPress is the best blog plattform and content management site that I have ever seen and used.

I started using WordPress in January 2008 and now I have 3 beautiful blogs, all professionally designed. Well, I must admit I knew somewhat about HTML, but it´s because of the power of WP.

Actually, I have not really understood what you mean. You can either create a special page, a specific banner or just use some widgets on your WordPress in order to have a featured listing on your blog.

It would be great if you explain more about your project.

    Cheers!

Hi. I thought I read in this thread that changing your template is only a "click" away. I realize that you can change the WordPress templates like that but I was interested in getting one of the many free ones available outside of WordPress that I can use.

    Are they hard to use?

If it helps, here is my simple disgusting WordPress blog with the standard template.

    Thanks

    Well to expand a bit on my project;

I play a lot of squash and have agreed to help develop the website for squash Northland (the region that I belong to) because nobody else really knows how to build/run a website.

basically I just want to redesign the site - so it doesn't look so crap. and then upload it to wordpress so that I can teach them how to use it.

I basicall have used HTML to build my other sites.

I only use Wordpress these days, it is very easy and has tons of plugins and themes. If you know a little HTML you will be able to customize the site any way you want.
