Even though .co is a country specific tld, I doubt if google would treat it the same way. It has been launched/marketed for commercial, company segment and so hopefully, big g will treat it the same way! :)

I don't think so. Example, for .us domain, you will see it's for US in Google Webmaster Tool and you cannot change it.

I dont think it gets the same ranking as .com. It will probably be more localized and appear in the country search results but not as much in the generalized global results unless you have a site that is very highly trafficked and popular.

i think .com will rank higher plus im sure most big sites will buy their .co version and redirect it to the .com so it doesn't matter

.co stands for colombia and will be treated as a ccTLD. Why? Because it is a ccTLD. It doesn't matter how they "branded it".

Just like .tv, .co is going to cause a lot of commotion. It stands for Colombia and not "company"

What was Colombia's domain extension before this? I'm sure they had one, right?

.co domains will never be able to replace the .com domains. It will also give room for misunderstandings.. As mentioned above the .co domains are Colombian and NOT so-called commercial domains. Selling .co domains to people all over the world should not be allowed - but that is only my opinion :)

I was also wondering about this. I believe it will be treated as a different country domain though.
