The most effective method is using the ATL attributes for each image tag,
ALT text displays before the image is loaded and it's purposes is to describe images for search engines.

Just add a descriptive text on alternative desc. (alt="") of the image. It helps the search engine to distinguish what is your image.

optimize/label your photo too when you make it up as a .jpg file. call it say, just as an example: miami-beach-volleyball-vacation.jpg be sure to use "-" hyphens , if you want to optimize for miami volleyball and miami beach and vacations in miami etc ; then also use ALT attribute to give the photo a short descrption. submit page to google and yahoo for indexing too....
google really likes new photos. also study how others label their photos in your niche where you want to rank for webpages and photos...plenty of traffic can come from images.

Alt attributes for images are important and the contents around images are also calculated. :)

Following factors are taken into consideration:

    1) Name your image properly: If you writing about a laptop, say HP 2133 notebook, then you should name it as hp-2133-notebook or hp_2133_notebook

    2) Use alt tag

    3) Content around the image also helps a lot

First, check your robots.txt, if you have enable the image folder for caching and then try webmaster tools for this blog. There is an option to enable image search for your site in webmasters. Even you can prepare an image sitemap including all locations of your images and then submit it in Google and various other search engines too.
    Hopefully this will work

    Not any more:

    Google Webmaster Central

Removal of the enhanced Image Search option: We're always iterating and improving on our services, both by adding new product attributes and removing old ones. With this release, the enhanced Image Search option is no longer a component of Webmaster Tools. The Google Image Labeler will continue to select images from sites regardless of this setting.
