I have found many website which has no relevant back links still they manged to get PR 4. Why? I have found one community site, which has no seo work done on it, but in just year it has got more than 70 K + unique visits and get PR 1... I am sure Google has changed it algo for distributing PR. Your comments.
Well, you need to look for the quality of backlink but not quantity. If you do have 1 bcklink from PR10, then you can get PR5. Besides, traffic are not related to Pagerank. By the way, mind to share how you get 70k traffic per year?

i have 80,000 daily visit, but my PR is 3, at the same time my site is so friendly with google,it always show in first pages for much arabic keywords getting good backlinks is the best way to get high pagerank but there is some site have only internal backlinks from their forums and they have PR5 and PR6 !!!!
If your site has many pages and all link back to index page, these internal link will page weight to home page, even your site hasn't had many external link.
I think if we have a back link from pr 10 site, then our site PR will automatically move to pr 7 or 8
In my opinion, social networking site are never constant, they are updated daily and many people visit social networking sites( for making friends or dating). They are updated daily (someone registering, making like that) and recieve high amount of traffic.
AFAIK Google doesn't treat links from social network sites well. Also with changes to PR formula there are much more puzzles now. PR's mission is to make google search efficient, so all links which can do it will be treasured, if they are just advertisement/marketing/promotion, then they won't. That's how it works (or should work)
How Google give PR to sites? This question can only be answered by Google Anyway, backlinks can make a difference when it comes to PR.
Getting a high page rank isn't just from backlinks. I believe Google also checks the relevance of a page too. I have over 3,000 unique people a day to one of my sites and it's luckily maintained a page rank 4 - though the site has been mentioned (and linked) from higher page ranked websites yet it just stays as a PR4. Some information that I came across might be helpful with page ranking too.
I thinks that's Google's mistake. I find a site without links had PR5,but I find check Links at Google, that site's link the same as another site..
i think google gives PR on the basis of good backlinks and how you spreads the website. I got 80 backlinks and Google gave 3 PR and next time I"ll strive hard to make them 200 so that PR would jump to 4-5..
Not only quantity but quality/relevancy of the backlinks decides the PR. And no wonder Google will take down the PR in next update if backlinks are not strong.
