Keywords are the searching parameters which includes one or two words. Tags are the sentences used while searching.

In terms of SEO, keywords and tags have lost their importance. So you may forgot them. However, keywords suppose to be a factor for SEO and tags should be navigational help for your readers.

Google checks websites to discover what keywords have been used in them and then takes a look at their links to give them some rankings and traffic shares. The title tags of the pages are very important but keywords are not useful nowadays any longer.

Google is using rel="tag" to identify differentiate between tags in blog and keywords in meta keywords tag. However, while Google does count and give little score toward tags but nothing they would give with meta keywords for now.
