How Google calculates inbound links

Discussion in 'Google' started by aliweb, Mar 20, 2008.

    Hi,

Let's say I have two websites:

    Website A
    Website B

On website A there are two pages:

    page1.php
    page2.php

And on these pages there is a link to Website B. I want to ask if Google will consider both these links (as inbound for Website B) or only one and ignore other because they are from same domain?

I mean if a website has 10 pages pointing to same thing, will Google take into account all or only one of them?

    Thanks

You will get all 10 backlinks from Site A if Google saw B link on those pages.

I know how they do calculate, they have alot of employees with pen and pad, they surf the web and write down all the links then piece them together to calculate the inbounds for the particular website :)

    Both links from

    page1.php
    page2.php

Will be considered as Backlinks, however, if you are hosting both domains on the same Host, then that means both sites have same IP, and in such case, these links will not worth much.

google will always change its algo once they believe a lot of people has good ideas about it and have successfully get top rank easily. so it is good if you know the secret you keep it to yourself otherwise you are making it hard on yourself.

Links from both pages will be considered as back links. I have plenty of examples of this happening.

Right, but any back link is worth *something*... A backlink from a lower PR page on a completely separate domain would be worth less than a backlink from page2.php high PR site hosted in the same IP cluster, no?

Both will be classed as links, however if all your links have the same anchor text you will get a significant devaluation in the PR multiplication factor.

You're saying that 2 links to the same page, both coming from different pages within the same IP group are worth more (to the target's PR) if the 2 links identify the target page differently by using different anchor text?

So, let me broaden the example a bit. Let's say 1000 sites all link to someones-hub-site.com. Each of the 1000 links has different anchor text.

Then, there's another-joes-site.net, with 1000 sites linking to it, each one with anchor text "joe".

So, "hub" gets a higher PR than "joe"?

Wouldn't they be the same PR, since the 1000 sites "votes" for both the hub and joe are coming from equal PRs?

    Yes
    Hub beats joe.
Even smarter if you link to hub and get that to link to joe though.
Google devalues the multiplication effect that PR has on the anchor text if the links come from the same site/ip number, and to a lesser extent from the same PR class as long as the links have the same anchor text content.

Interesting, never knew the effect that anchor text variation played. Thanks. :)

Google calculates the worth of a website mostly based on the total number of one-way links, reciprocal links and high-PR links. If you're interested, you can read this post about "How to Calculate your Ensuing Google Pagerank?"
