    yes, sure you can, it help very much...for a no cost tool, google adwords k/w tool is recommended

    You can see volume of searches for any specific keyword through Google adword tool. Also you can see the competition against any keyword, Its really helpful.

    yes, you can get a feel of the search pattern. I purpose use misspelt words in my blog post, since there is a reasonable monthly searches.

    you can try a program called market samurai. Its helps you check out your competitors for your targeted keyword, among other things
