How good would a Nintendo Wii giveaway be?

I'm thinking of doing a Wii giveaway for my new gaming site. Like if you register at my forums and post a review of a game so I can put it on my site, then you are entered. Every review you write gets an entry.

How many people do you think would participate? And do you think I should make the people do something instead of writing a review?

Well it fits perfectly with your niche.

I think its a great idea, of course gamers will want to win one! :)

They hardest part is promoting the contest but with such a great prize you should have some luck.

I think it's a great idea, but you have to get the word out effectively to maximize ROI.

I would spend about $1000 total doing this campaign (use paid PR service PRWeb to do a Press Release for nation-wide distribution), banner ads on popular gaming sites, and email marketing to get the word out.

The Wii is super-popular and many people will sign up for this contest. Make sure you get what you want from the potential-site members in return.

I'm not much of a gamer so forgive me if this is a stupid remark:

If the user wants to win a Wii then chances are they don't already have one...so how will they be able to write a game review? would they write the review based on playing the game on a different system?

    Just asking...

Yeah they would write for PS3 or Xbox 360 or PC. If they like video games, they will probably want a free system, even if it isn't their favorite one.

Gaming magazines is another place you might look into for advertising.

its a great gift but make sure you have enough traffic to have atleast a couple hundred or more people to see it. I have seen a wii giveaway before on a forum for posting and there were only like two people who participated so I'm guessing the owner wasn't very happy.

But how much would that cost? A Wii is only $250.

..."Yeah they would write for PS3 or Xbox 360 or PC". I see.

Maybe give it away only once XX number of "approved" reviews have been submitted?

To give you an idea heres the results I had for something similiar.

On a weight loss forum I ran a contest that lasted 3 months. Basically it was whoever can write the most articles (minimum of 500 words) in 3 months wins a treadmill (valued at $400).

Well it brought in decent traffic and I ended up with 94 articles.

You're right, I thought they had become available again, but it looks like they are still sold out. I might do a core XBOX 360 then, they are $300.

or you can give away pc games (since the visitors on your forum most probably own a computer) or a giftcard to gamestop or something

This contest would have been much better last month. I hear there's another huge shipment of Wiis coming in about 6-7 days.

Too bad the PS3 isn't hot. You can trip over them at some stores now. :)

    360 is the show.
