How good is adwords?

I heard adwords is real good and i like the fact my site will be listed at the top. I never used adwords but i do know how it works. I also saw adwords got a RPG game over 2,000 members in 6 days!!! do you think it would get my hosting company to earn more?

Adwords is a very effective marketing tool when handled properly. Without resorting to the sales spiel, Adwords ads reach something like 80% of all internet users and will normally return on investment at a much higher rate than traditional magazine or TV advertising.

Bear in mind though that before considering an Adwords campaign you should ensure your site is well made and has appropriate landing pages for your customers. I've seen a number of campaigns where money was being poured away because the landing pages were not well suited to the ads. Running an effective campaign is as much about the target site as it is about the ads.

You should also ensure you have good metrics to measure performance. Adwords and Analytics can provide you with great stats but you'll want to ensure you have decent existing stats to measure them against and some key methods of tracking conversions.

One of the key selling points of Adwords is that you can start small, measure the results then scale them up. There's no need to start at $10,000 a day and worry about losing that money, you can start on $5 a day (or even less) and if your measurements show a positive ROI then it's simply a matter of how high you want to go.
