That is wild, I've never considered the details of the organization. How long do you normally spend on one site? I have read the guidelines when submitting two of my sites that I thought were eligible for approval. What do you think about the comment that editors are bloggers themselves and will not approve some applicants to keep down the competition? Seems like a stretch but I also know anything is possible. Thanks for the feedback.
1-5 minutes if it's working - but I'm very experienced. Blogs are competitive? We don't tolerate abusive editing and we remove abusive editors when proof is found. I don't doubt that we have some right now but they don't usually last long. New editors are only granted small categories to begin with as a damage limitation thing. They might or might not be supervised but their work is scrutinised in detail when they request further permissions.
Jim, I appreciate your frank and honest feedback. So as an editor for DMOZ what is the recommendation that you would offer the owner of a website for submitting to DMOZ? Quality, unique content is obvious but what other specific recommendations could you offer? Thanks
I don't know what you mean by quality. So long as a website has unique useful information, isn't too user hostile, mostly works and isn't following one of the business models that we don't list, we'll list it. Actually read the documentation. Suggestion Guidelines (You have to agree these when suggesting a website) Site Selection Criteria (Part of our editor guidelines) How to get your site listed FOUR times faster! (Quite old now but probably still valid) <added>Fixed 3rd link</added>
I would say that you should do you best in submitting your site. Don't try to do some SEO things with your submission to DMOZ. Just submit your site with what it has. 1) Make sure your site has all links working properly without any error pages. 2) Make sure your domain is not parked or forwarded. 3) Make sure has unique contents that is useful for the visitor. 4) Make sure you choose the right category. I have heard that many submissions will get rejected because they will be parked when an editor reviews the website(The submitter gets tired of the wait). Also, an editor will edit your title, description to make sure its appropriate. Also, he may change the category as per your website.
