how free hosting make money?

    hi, i come across a free hosting site that offers hosting without any ads. How do they make money with any ads? any one have any ideas?

    They usually just hope that people like you say what you just said in public, then once there is a load of users they add in ads.

    Just like Myspace and facebook did.

    The way I see it... "PRACTICE" and "EXPERIMENT"... Coz it's nicer to practice and experiment hosting services on FREE Hosting. Of course no one likes to screw-up their clients that pays :D

    That's why most of this kind a FREE Hosting is NOT RELIABLE.....

    They are proably building a big user base and then they will start putting ads on the site or will tell users to upgrade to their paid hosting.

    I'd also add that these businesses get a lot of users, traffic, back links etc. I have see these bing sold for substantial amounts because they are proven with a big list.

    Perfect for a marketer looking for new sales opportunities.

    I used free hosting over a year, some of their strategies to get money are:
    1) They redirect your visitors to their sites (of course with ads inside) once or twice a month
    2) Put ads in login panel
    3) Use pop up when you login...

    Very cynical everyone here :) There are quite a bit of freehosts making a profit while not having any ads on the user pages.

    I don't think there is anything wrong with ads anywhere but on the user pages. And there are a lot more ways to make money without misusing your users. Just be a bit more creative instead of just copying people.

    Also, the non-reliable you often notice has nothing to do with trying out stuff; there are many paid hosters blowing their users as well. I know a lot of hosters where you actually pay a lot and get total crap.

    It could be like some others, that give you free hosting, and hope you pay for hosting should you exceed the limits imposed on you
