I have for some time used a popular free online program for content rewriting, and it has made me want to adapt the program to specific uses in my own content management system. i have no intention of reselling it or making it available for users of my site; what I have in mind is basing a control panel on the tool and having the outut directly to code snippets on my pages. This way i could easily add similar but customized paragraphs to many pages at one time. The tool is free, and a desktop version is also free, but i don't know if I have permission to clone it for internal use on my server, even for my own purposes. It has in fact already been cloned, and the original owner was quite unhappy. This being a different case, I hope he'd approve, since I wouldn't be offering this service in competition to him. If I don't get word back, is it ethical to find someone to customize my control panel using the site as a guideline? I feel the owner, who happens to be a forum member, would probably be okay with this kind of use of the tool and even interested in helping develop it. But I can't wait forever to hear back. Should I have someone use the clone as a model? There are actually several versions of this software out there, so it's not exactly unique, but I'd like to be able to say, "code me something like this site" and feel that I'm not stepping on any toes or laws. Input?
