How file sharing sites make money

I was curious how websites like hotfile, rapidshare, depositfiles, etc make money?
They pay the webmaster per 1000 downloads, which I assume takes a lot of money out.
Also, some sites have banners. Do banners really make so much money?
And of course the premium accounts - is that the main source of income you think?
I imagine the amount of bandwidth and servers you must have in order to keep up with so much traffic, it must be pretty expensive (also the administration of those servers).

    Thank you!

Correct, they make most of there money from Permium Accounts rather than Banners, though Banner is a easy way to make money online!

And since a lot of the old players are still around, it means the business system must be working for them or lese they could have closed a long time ago...
