How feasible is this idea? A kelley blue book of instruments

Has anyone tried to accomplish a similar feature on their site?

My site is an online publication for low brass players (see my avatar).

I would like to have my members submit information if they have bought or sold an instrument in the past few years and I'd like to compile the information to make a blue book database of it all.

People will be able to search by brand and model number, and pull up a page that lists all the sales in a table so they can eaily compare the date sold, condition and of course the price to determine what their instrument is worth.

Here's the kicker, this will take me weeks to program (my PHP chops are still growing)... how can I charge for this service? A few dollars per query? A Yearly subscription to the information?

How can I make this work?

Thanks for advice or feedback on the idea!

I would think parents of new band members could use such a site. I would have no idea the value of a used or new instrument.

Yah that's what I was thinking, a quite large percentage of new members who join our site are parents of kids who play. I have another huge plan in the works to write up a comprehensive FAQ for parents, beginners and music teachers explaining the costs, necessary equipment, necessary skills and the general pros and cons about starting a child on the tuba, including an unbiased recommendation of instrument brands that are good value for the money or unusually high quality for the money. I'll run it past my regular members see what they think, at the least I'll get some discussion going.
