Usually my sites have to, at least, double in profit every month until they reach over $100 then I strike for doubling in 2 months. It's not really how much that matters. Every site is differant. Just as long as you are getting a strong increase than you are doing well.
For Adsense it always DAY 1 for me (and for most affiliates) If it's a "Sale" it may take 1-3 days if not using PPC.

My site started making about $2 a month from adsense, but since about mid summer I've made about $200, I'm not to sad at that, but I'd love to do that in a day :x!!!
For getting maximum profits in a lesser perios, you should go for some usful and effective ways to market your site. Sooner it reaches the people, sooner it will give you profit. So one must be sure in getting huge chunks of traffic and visitors. Also the site must see to it that it does not lose its visitors. It should have a larger customer base by satisfying them with what they need in the site. Once if they are satisfied, they can be your profit earning machines.
it all depends on what you are doing, if you start a new site and use adsense, it might take years to start earning a nice income. I started with the craigslist post's stuff, and i made $72 the first day the site was opend because i knew what the plan was and what im supose to do and who my customers are. hope this helps
