I've done an SEO Experiment and was able to get to the first page of Google SERPS for a relatively uncompetitive keywords in 8 days. I am told in can be done much faster. I'm curious and have been doing surveys of this. How fast have you been able to do it?

I would guess it depends on what day google crawls your site... Obviously if they dont crawl it for another 3 weeks you wont be showing up in 5 days :)

depending on the bots frequency to your site you would have to follow this directions:
    - focus on a keyword or two
    - make the page very SE friendly
    - build as many backlinks as possible
    - hope that googlebot will hit your site asap

It depends on how much your competitor webpages are working hard.
So no one can guess it depend on lot of factors. All you have to is to employ right techniques and hope for good results.

It took me a month or so to get reasonable traffic for a myspace related key-word phrase. But that was in a relatively new section of my website and one of the first articles in English on an Internet related subject. If I wrote a next one, I would guess it would go faster. Really depends on your website, the coding of the page itself (see above) and the competition for that phrase.

With black hat, for a moderately competitive keyword, less than a week.

Like somebody already said, it depends of many factors...But if you are lucky and all this things come in the right position, specific day for crawling, very low cempetitive kwywords...etc..you can get on #1 in only few days. My fastest ranking was in about 1 week...but competition was very weak ;)

    and what about google ;)
and after how much time, the site got banned or sent down in rankings?:)
definitely doable but most important is to sustain those rankings. was anyone who was able to get fast rankings (whether by blackhat or whitehat) was able to sustain those rankings for a longer period of time - say three-four months or probably longer?

It would totally depend on the amount of competition in the keyword you are shooting for.. Like it would take quite awhile to get #1 for "buying cars", or sites like that, but you may be able to get to the first page for "buying yellow lego pieces" faster :D

Yes, Mong - too many factors to be able to do a true comparative analysis. For some KWs and sites, it's possible in a 2-day turn around to be above the fold on the first page of Google ... while others may take weeks.

I'm still trying to get in the top 100 for a keyword that has 15,000,000 results!

I revise my above statement, I got 2 keywords in 1st and 2nd page results in 2 weeks for a myspace-related term with 15,000,000 results. not bad i guess

What's the point in getting a top ranking in less that a week for a low competing kw?

I had sites on first position on Google at more over 2 000 000 results on a keywords. That don't meen these sites will be on the first place for a long time. After one or two weeks these sites will lose positions if many other "factors" are not used properly...
