How far Profile link building works?

    Hello guys,

we can see lots of link building methods. And one major type of that is creating links through profiles. Either on signatures or about me information. But are these links are really worth?

    What do you think?

A profile link will only be valuable if it has link juice (i.e. maximum two or three clicks away from the homepage or any other high PR page or if the page has backlinks pointing to it). Pretty simple concept really, but often overlooked by people building profile links.

Profile in a social networkings sites works much better as a traffic driver; provided that a person write up a good profile.

No It's Not Like That If Just Let Know The SE That There are Links Placed I.e Ping Em It Does Pass Some LinkJuice To Your Site May Be Not Much Of LinkJuice Like While If It is Few Clicks Away But They Are Worth It
P.S:- This Is From My Experience So No Debates :)

So what would one say is the best strategy for getting some juice to your profile pages? Linking them together, commenting within the site so that internal links get back to profile page when it is possible? Many people claim that they have achieved PR to these profile pages, I wonder whats the trick.

You don't happen to sell profile links, do you? Oh yes, so you do, I just noticed your signature link ;)

Low or close to zero PR pages will NOT have a noticeable effect on your rankings, no matter which domain they are on.

To obtain PR for your profile pages, you need to get links from other pages which have PR. So effectively you could get some profile pages with good PR if you put the work in by building links to them (even blog commenting would help here).

At SimpSEO, do you think that a Linkwheel of profile pages (large like 100 profile pages) spearheaded by blog commenting to 1 profile page would work? Would it pass along the juice while giving enough to the other pages on its way?

It works very, very well. I've seen plenty of PR 4+ sites built using only profile links. You're going to need a couple hundred of them and Google takes a while to find them all, but they definitely work over time.

I'm not a fan of link wheels, because you're basically telling Google that you control all of those pages which are interlinked.

Additionally, each time you link from one site to another, you leak PR along the way, so it's not a good strategy to have 100 pages with the PR being gradually diluted as it passes through the various pages.

I'd rather have 10 profile pages, all of which have good backlinks, than 100 profile pages with fewer backlinks each. In fact, rather than profiles, I'd create some Squidoo lenses and things like that and put some unique, readable content on each of the pages.

Profile link building is a very good idea, I agree. But we've to follow up things. Simply creating profiles will not help much.

    Dude,
How annoying was it to capitalize every word in your response? Odd...

Anyway, as others have said the only way profile links help is if they have backlinks or have PR juice from the site. Most do not.

some people call this spam. some people call this white hat. There is nothing wrong with creating links where other websites allow you to create links on. I.E. your own profile or your signature.

When 100s of quick profiles just come ups with the intention of link building - it becomes spam. when a few profiles come up with good follow up and activity it becomes white hat link building. :)

Yes exactly. If you join a forum just for the backlink then it is spam as you are adding no value to the community. I wouldn't go in for anything like this myself.

I think it is possible only in case of not secured profile pages, where you can open profile page without need of login to the forum sites. That is normal website as others :)
