With India's economy going down, the current $ rs conversion is well beyond 50 INR, and it's almost like an advantage for all those who're earning here, or anywhere on the net. $20 would be around 1,000 bucks, and that would buy a branded t-shirt, or pair of shoes and one month internet connection with 2 mbps speed :D

Come on mate, don't tell me that brands like Action and Bata or Sparx are all pirated or fake..even they are branded shoes--I never said anything like international brands or adidas.:p

I think you haven't checked any plans by MTNL or you wouldn't have argued over the point about Internet connection ..Around $20, you can get 2 mbps speed connection and around 7 gb free usage by MTNL...

So, Hope I have made clear everything and your doubts are cleared as well..;)

    I'm from Delhi

    MTNL = Govt Sector
I dont know how u manage when there services goes down ... I used there services for 2 weeks and out of those 2 weeks my net was down for 7 days .. !! I simply cant rely on that connection .. actually the thing is there is a big difference between cheap service and quality service.

Hey mate, we aren't arguing about ISP and their services here, are we? ;)
I just wrote the fact- the fact that they are providing such services, now it's up to the people how they take it.

And now that you've touched about their services, I agree sometimes they can be really unreliable and irritating, but i own a MTNL connection and my speed is around 1.5 mbps most of the times- I download a 700 mb file in 2-3 hours...and with 128 kbps...i think it would take around a whole day to download the file....:p

No, I don't run my car on CNG, neither on diesel. If you read that post, I meantioned, you can go 150 kms with $10 worth of gas. Lets do some Math here, shall we
    $10 = rs.500+
Petrol cost=rs44 in Chandigarh and 49 in Delhi, I think, to the MAX
Litres of petrol for rs 500= almost 11 (considering it to be at 45/litre)
My City goes almost 13 to 14 kms in 1 litre of petrol,
    so, 11*13= roughly 150 mate!!!
I hope You dont drive a BLUE LINE!
I never said $20 would LAST a dat. But I gave you the break up- thats my Saturday eve expenditure, and none of the rates I have mentioned are ill-flated! They are tru to the core.
Now, if you happen to have a hearty appetite and eat 5 buckets of KFC, obviously, $5 would be less for you, but, in my opinion, $20/person/weekend outing is about it. Of course, you can add up an additional $20 to that depending upon your tastes etc, but I used these figures, just to give you an idea.
And yes, You can buy Pepe jeans under rs.1000 here and you can even get a Levis t-shirt+cargo pair for rs.999- all under $20.
Things you can't get for $20 include:
    1. Meals at the Hyatt (still, one person can try to manage in $20, even there, but I doubt)
    2. Going on a long distance trip in your own car
    3. A pair of Nike Jordans
    4. An autographed bat from Sachin Tendulkar
    5. A computer||Bike||Car...as suggested by someone in the thread
    6. Coaching for cracking the IIT JEE :p
    and similar stuff
So, more or less, it depends upon how you spend, where you spend and how penurious you are at the end of the day- if you really try hard, you might even run for a week on $20, if you try harder, you might be able to burn $20k in a single day- such is the disparity.

well few things ---> economically depressed country -----> No we are not. We are hard working indians and thats why we offer competitive pricing. As far as spending is concerned--- it depends on your lifestyle.
1 litre petrol can come for $ 1 -- and if you u use a car-- then 2$ is enough for 1 day. if you use bike -- it can run for 4 days. About the food --- you can eat for $ 2 ata local dhabba to $ 15 in a good resturant for 2. Rest-- lifestyle matters and there is no grading for that.

I come from Iran, a "third" world country, in the capital ( Tehran) you can eat at a restaurant about 3 times. Or buy loads of gas for your car or bags of fruit. BUT real estate is expensive everything else is cheap, except meat.

I think India is the Best Place to Live...My Sweet Home where you can do so many things with just $20 a day.
This is actually higher than what Engineers earn at the starting of their career (here in India).
So you do have a good standard of living if you are earning $20 a day in India.
