How Exactly Is A Duplicate Account Determined?

Do DP mods determine duplicate accounts solely on basis of IP addresses?

I am a bit surprised at the number of people (that I know) getting banned for duplicate accounts..especially from India..

    Just wondering !!.

Rumor has it, it takes more than having da same IP address. Like posting in da same sales thread, giveing iTrader points to each other....

Though a LOT of people complain that they never made a second account, and a few times it's turned out they were right!!! er....!!!!

    Agree with nino,
Some people change the ip somehow or use proxy and then re register to the forum and do the same thing  Posting the same sales thread or may be private message spamming
So the mods come to know that he is the same person :p

Well, I think it all starts at the same IP address. Then other factors are considered after that.

Although it's fair to say that some countries have very small IP bands so it's common for people who are totally unrelated to use the same IP at some stage.

Just a guess, I have my own vBulleting forum and it has a whitelist domains feature from which only listed domains can accept the post functionality.....correct me if I am wrong

    Thanks
