If you thought you were doing well in your blogging and link building the stats for Engadget will blow you away.

I have been tracking data for a load of sites and Engadget is getting an average of 3500 links to each post. Some have over 20,000 links.

Other sites like Matt Cutts get 268 links to each post, Matt clearly needs to work on his link baiting. :D

If you want me to track links to your posts and plot them on a chart like the one below sign up here.

You would need to upload a small script to a site running php before we can track the links.

Maybe you could get a friend to do this for you? The script can be used for a few different sites.

The main reason they get so many links is that they have 600,000 RSS subscribers, a lot of these are bloggers.

Also they syndicate posts across the bottom of every page in the Weblogs Inc. network so brand new posts get upwards of 20,000 links within the first few hours. This link count decreases as newer posts push the older ones off the pages but you always end up with about 5 or 10 posts with a load of links to bring the average up.

You can see how they syndicate content at the bottom of each page in the image below:

Yahoo also reports links from sites like Digg & del.icio.us and Engadget is always popular on these.
