Well if all the directories are decent PR sites atleast 5 and also have a decent amount of traffic then its good strategy except its useless.

Well, Thats what im working on right now and tring to get. I will keep you all updated once I have the list done.

I don't see how getting 1000 one way links to your site, would be useless !!
You would get higher search engine rankings and get some bonus traffic, if not alot.

Just consider that the directory has a PR 3 or something and also gets no traffic so what benifit will it make for you.

Don't forget that a link is a link. Search engines do have some kind of link age filter, so you can't build 1000 links overnight or you will look susupicious. HOWEVER, the more links you have to your site, the more links you can build in a given month and not look suspicious. For example, if the search engines had a 20% growth allowance per month a site that has 100 links can only grab about 20 links a month and look legit, but a site with 1000 links could grab 200 links. Link growth is something that compuounds, so if you keep getting links of all different kinds, you'll be in better shape than if you didn't. If you are a new site, every link counts, but if you are a PR 5 or 6 type site, a bunch of directory submissions aren't going to boost you that much.

Senaia be careful how much time you spend on this endevour, by the time you are finished collecting many of the free directories will likely have become paid.

The best way to get free directory listings is to keep an eye out in the announcement section here at DP and check-out the new directories. If the directory looks nice (like the owner has spent a little time and thought on it) make a submission.

    good luck

Perhaps a directory tracker tool like this could help you manage your list. It won't save you time initially, but it should cut out some time later. While you're evaluating your list you can enter the acceptable directories into your personal list on the tracker and then use the tracker to watch links in those directories for all your websites.

Something that nobody seems to have pointed out is that just because you submit your site to a 1000 directories, doesn't mean that all are going to accept your site. Some may object to the content while others may not like the looks or think that it doesn't fit right with their niche. Also, don't forget that the effects of 1000 accepted submissions are relative to the niche, the quality of the directory, the quality of the website, and other SEO techniques that you implement. While 1000 directory links may do wonders for one site, it may not noticeably effect another site.

Being a new website and with google sandbox running for years now. Give me no choice than to break the rules and stop playing by it. I know that old website can get any amount of links and increase their current rankings.

I can't just set and wait for google to have mercy on me and all the new sites that come out. Everything is pushing you towards google adwords. Im simply sick of it and there are other search engines to go after, like yahoo and msn.

Yes indeed. Getting over 1000 links FAST can trigger the alarm and get you no where.....but im already no where and have nothing to lose.

Anyway, thank you all for your advice :)

If you have a new site and perhaps it's more of a content-driven site, it might be a good idea to do maybe some article submissions and link-exchanging to build up your profile. Now, don't go crazy with it, but both methods can be good ways to build up fairly-legit links without breaking the rules. Just remember that the best approach is not to focus on one link-building method too much, but instead to work through various methods to find what works best for your sites.

Some sites get links via blog and ping or tag and ping. Other sites get a lot of links through directory submission. Some work the link-bombing blog spam method. Others use link exchanges. Some do article submission. The most success you will have is if you can use a good combination of various methods to achieve the success you desire. If nothing else only submitting to a couple hundred directories instead of 4,000 might keep you from going insane.

IMO, most of the free directories, especially the new ones are too new, and usually links from them don't help a lot immediately. You should try and submit to free directories that have been around for some time now. This will surely be more helpful.

Also, I personally feel that most of the new free directories coming up are MFA sites, and might not last for long (since their owners want to earn instant earnings from them and might not keep the directory online for long.) However, some old ones also die down over the period of time.

But one thing is for sure, that these free directories do help in getting you backlinks and the anchor texts can be suited to match your keywords.
