How effective is posting comments on blogs for direct traffic?

I am not instereted about posting comments for links or seo, (Most blogs use nofollow anyway) but instead for direct traffic. Most blogs have a slot where you can place the url of your website. Do visitors from those blogs often click on the url and visit your site?

I have a high traffic blog and people are always posting crap comments to directories with one liners like "Nice Site". I spam those without giving them a second thought

You can get some clicks, not that many usually. The best thing I've got out of providing quality comments are some great links from site owners. If they love your stuff you just may get a link.

I do support that If your comment is on the topic and interesting then It helps to fetch some direct traffic. And those may be actual. Not spammers.

You can get some traffic if the blog has lots of readers and you comment is useful and on topic.

That depends on the blog you're visiting and the quality of your comments.
If it's interesting, people WILL click your URL. Mind you, not many, but some.
But then again, you have to take little baby steps to achieve your goals.
It's just as Business Blogger and Noddegamra say in their posts. But it adds up.
I've had some requests to jv or exchange links as a result of posting comments.

    You should not neglect this.
If you post on a blog with NoFollow in use, the link value isn't passed, but if
you post a high quality comment on a high traffic blog, you CAN generate
    (some) traffic.
Until, one day, you hit something big and see a spike in visitors.

Also, there are a lot (and growing number) of blogs, that have implemented
the DoFollow policy. That way, they reward valuable comments.
In that case, you also receive (some) link value, depending on the number
of outgoing links on that permalink. Again, small steps, but it can add up.

As rzvagelsky says, many people immediately jump on these blogs to post
crap messages. That's why most DoFollow bloggers have moderation in
    place.
Personally I even ban some of these notorious spammers and report them to
the DoFollow Community I'm a member of.

In general, it basically is the same as posting on this forum.
Make a shitty post and no one will look at it. But if you're posting something
of value, people will click your links and it makes the forum owner happy :).

Don't expect wonders to happen, but little bits add up fast.
If you post high quality comments you will build a nice network
of blog owners that are happy with your contribution and may link to your
site or one of your posts.
If that owner happens to be one of the A-list bloggers, you better watch your
    bandwidth. :D

    Does this help?

I have received several clicks from my comments and I would say that they are well-worth the effort :) Especially when you are the first to comment.

I definitely would say it's worthwhile. It's a networking technique. Even if you don't get huge amounts of traffic, it's very likely that if the comments are quality, you'll build relationships with (and repeat traffic from) those other bloggers with a direct interest in what you're saying. That's also how they're more likely to link to you in posts if they like something you're saying on your own blog, which also carries traffic potential. And don't discount posting on low-traffic blogs... I've watched a few in my niche that I was networking with go from brand new to "players" worth following. Get in on the ground floor. :)

I've gotten some traffic, but not much. It's worth the effort though for the few times that a fellow webmaster finds your site because of the comment and it results in a beneficial relationship :)

No you should not do it for traffic in my opinion. You will do it because you want to know the other blogger in the same niche as you are. Establishing network is important to get the word out about you.

If you have good content, people in your niche will recognize you. Not to mention if you be the first or second commentator on blog which used to have a good number of comments then you can gain exposures to even more people.

Don't think about PR, think it as your way to introduce yourself to other bloggers.

I think you can some nice traffic if the blog is popular and your site is related to the niche of the blog itself. The comment itself has to be genuine and not seem like a spam.

Quality traffic is directly proportional to the quality of the effort you put into getting it!

Spend effort, time and money on doing something for someone, and they (not all) will naturally reciprocate by spending their time/money/effort in return. this is basic Networking 101.

You can apply this to anything.. Blog posts, Forum Posts, Articles, products etc.

You must give before you can expect to receive.

So having said all that: Yes blog posting s can definitely give you traffic, IF the value of your post to the reader warrants enough value for them to check out your site.

    Don't agree? Let me know!

I only comment on related blogs if I have important things to say about the post. This way the traffic I receive is actually very related, and quality traffic.

In case of seo value from blog comments, I don't believe there's any value there (nofollow tags).

I also receive tons of short blog comments such as "nice site", "excellent", etc. and they all go to the spam with one click.

I like this zorde :) nicely put together.

My success receipe: Work hard, Work harder, and Work even harder.

If you are well organized (not? get organized and increase your efficiency now to be able to succeed), then there's no reason you won't be successful in online business.
