Both are important now, but links should be coming from relevant forum or blog

Does that means if you are having a signature of seo services then your post should be on SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION category ?

It helps a lot, IMO, but it should be done in combination with other types of linkbuilding.

    Voted for both =)

Just depends on where you get the links on forums and blogs. Strategically placed, both methods can be effective but it is much easier to come up with good pages on blogs vs. good threads on forums. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong forums!!

I assume we are only talking link equity here and nothing to do with referral traffic, right?

Great answer! I agree. BTW, forum signature links are very little use for Google SERP ranking, however, they can bring a few traffic to your site.

Minimally for ranking, but big for helping to be crawled/found by the SE's.

Besides, traffic is traffic. You can get a good amount of traffic from both, if you are providing thoughtful posts and replies on forums and blogs. Which MAY factor into your ranking - ie, one or both sites have Google Analytics, which tracks from where traffic is coming and how long it stays, thus Google MAY consider the page(s) as valuable content, which COULD boost your rank. *This is based upon a theory I have about Google Analytics.
