How effective is a good press release?

I am interested in having someone write a press release on my website with the intent to gain more members.

You can take a look at my forum here: http://dogfoodchat.com/forum

I want to submit it to prweb.com

Anyone have anything to say about their packages. I think they have packages from $80-$360.

    Thanks!

I've used it before just so I can put on my website a logo saying "as seen on yahoo news" with a link to the story. Not a bad deal if you do it right.

    1. Press releases don't work as well for forums as a lot of other sites, but if you have an honest news angle they can still work.

    2. I wouldn't focus so much on PRweb as making sure you're manually targeting niche sites. With a niche like yours, PRweb alone wouldn't be your best bet in my eyes - you'll need to target far deeper, such as going directly to niche sites, blogs, magazines, or whoever you think will care about your news while reaching your target audience.

At least, your contents can be quickly collect by the search engine.
