How effective ARE article database type sites?

I've been using a few, such as articlebase, to bolster interest in one my clients' online content, but I have a feeling a piece of the puzzle is missing. Are they primarily beneficial as a link distribution strategy (ie, another site posts your content and you get a free link) or does it really help get your content out there? One thing that worries me as a copywriter is the lack of control over material -- anyone who wants to post the articles is able to.

I have used articles and news but to be honest i havent seem any improvements.
But again , it doesnt mean that this applies to everybody. Maybe I went the wrong way about doing it.

I also paid for inclusion to avoid the possibility that you mention.

    Any other opinions ?

The key, IMO, is to create valuable content... or to put it bluntly: Write something worth reading.

As people read your articles and pick them up for syndicated distribution, you do gain exposure and this helps with search engines.

Don't focus on one article database but submit to a few of the top db's for your market.

And again ... be sure the articles you are creating are worth reading. If you submit poor quality, people will catch on and begin ignoring your content.

Write for humans and give them a reason to keep reading your information. Ultimately, over time, this will boost your credibility and exposure.

Thanks for the tips. It seems like patience might be the key here...you have to wait for quality content to find its audience, especially if it's marketed towards a niche group

Well done, they can be valuable. However, article writing is so cheap these days, it's pretty affordable to have new articles written, or re-written, for your project.

Most article writers fail to recognize the importance of the resource box. If you want your articles to be effective you have to push buttons and make offers. Give them a reason to click that link.

Things like, "For more quality articles like this one visit mysite.com" just don't cut it.
