I have a theme that i really like the look of but want to add a more snazzy looking menu to the top.

How easy would it be for a complete novice to install a menu like this

the files include would be css, images, index.html

Can you suggest any links that will give me an overview on how to do something like this as i would also like to change the slider too

    thanksinadvance

"Complete novice" meaning someone who can't read PHP code? You probably can't.

    Hello,

You might be better off hiring a designer/developer to do it, as trying to do something your not familiar with would be far more worse and stress if something goes wrong.

    Regards,

Well i don't necessarily understand php code, but i understand the layout of it.

The reason is i want to learn how to customize a theme better. i want to be able to add my own slider and menu into my theme.

You'd have to understand at least HTML and CSS. PHP would just be creating the HTML and CSS code.

You'd have to understand at least HTML and CSS. PHP would just be creating the HTML and CSS code, and the document object model.

You have to be able to read HTML, CSS and any templating language being used if the theme uses templates, in order to know WHERE and HOW to insert the code. No one can tell you where to place it without reading the theme (and possibly the site code too).

It's like showing a mechanic a screw and asking where it came from in the car. Depending on the site code and the theme, the menu could go in one of the theme files, one of the site files or somewhere else that we're not even aware of that's used on your site.

Modifying a website isn't something that you can just "do", any more than replacing a knee joint is. You can't just buy a knee joint and replace someone's knee without medical knowledge. You can't just buy a menu and insert it into a website without programming knowledge. (I'm not saying that web development is anywhere near as complex as even being a competent nurse, but it's not as simple as "place tab B into slot X" either.)

As creativewebmaster said, hire someone to do it for you. It's not a complex job, it won't cost a fortune and it won't leave you with a site that doesn't even load (which is probably what you'll get if you try to do it yourself).
