    Yes

Managing a forum is not very hard, could be a bit time consuming if you have lots of users to moderate the forum, but then again just get some people(moderators) to help you :)

I don't actually agree with you!
Maybe in the earlier stage, with a couple 100 members it's going to be easy! But as the database grows you will have 100s of MBs of databackup needed alternately if not daily!
If you go with Vbulletin, it's fine! But if you have a phpbb or so boards it will take heck of a time for it! And as you go on adding mods to the forums, your bored will become crampled!
Again there are issues of being updated, Internet scripts have vulnerabilities released frequently, it will be your work to stay up-to-date, otherwise you face the risk of getting hacked! If you do, you have to begin with the backup and so on!
Although, after the outsource boom, much of these work can be outsourced, there people in India and Romania who will do all this for you at a nominal cost!
Here I have answered the question regarding managment of a forum, again there is a question of publicising it, getting more users to signup et al!

It's all about getting great moderators.

I would take 1 great moderator over 100 mediocre ones any day. :)

Managing a big forum and keeping competitive will mean staffing good people, and managing people can be pretty demanding!

Running a forum from a technical perspective is not bad unless you're running custom mods or need to support non-standard software in addition to the particular forum package.

A basic vBulletin or phpBB forum can grow quite big, and a decent server with a backup job will only require the occasional software upgrade.

Thank you all for the info.
Hostgator keeps me for starting up the forum. They couldn't uninstall the corrupted phpbb from the directory for more than 10 days now. Keep sending me emails the forum works fine......., but it isn't working at all for the regular user. At least I am happy I bought a nice and easy to remember domain.
    Thanks again,
