First it was Myspace, and then Facebook, and now twitter.... To create a long term business, you would have to develop a sort of solid relationship with your followers on twitter,and would have to provide them with "value" before they start to buy from you and trust you. Spamming twitter with affiliate links may generate short term revenue but soon it'll dry down.
I think you should use Twitter in combination with your Blog, look about the topics your followers and following are interested in, create a blogpost (good content!!) with your affilate link for example and than post a link to this blog entry to your follower! Best way to earn on twitter is by gaining a lot of followers, but don't forget to follow others or you will be classed as a spammer. Once you have a good base of followers you can submit PPC links and other general affiliate links to earn revenue. -Z-
Gain as much followers as you can. Then offer advertising services (for money, obviously) on your account -- you advertise someone's website there, and you earn money.
The BEST strategy with Twitter is NOT to have a strategy. Now before all the "booing" starts, let me explain... If you are on Twitter and all you do is post links what do you think will happen??? If you don't seek out relationships and trust (just like on a forum) what makes you think people will listen anyway. Twitter is a great broadcasting tool but it's not designed to be a continual billboard. Think of Twitter the same way you do of forums like this one or the Warrior Forum or any other forum that you frequent. You don't just blatantly broadcast ads all over the place. That gets you banned. Plus it's in bad form. By NOT having a strategy, people will naturally check out your profile, ask you questions, and you'll eventually have interested people asking you "what do you do?"....that gives you the "green light" to tell them. Guess what...when you tell THEM, your other followers may pick up on the link and be interested too. That's what makes twitter and other social networks so powerful. Remember, your strategy is NO strategy. Use it for how it was designed and you'll do well. I do. The more you tweet the more license you have to post a link here and there.
Do making some serious followers first! and make them interest in you! Then you should start to make some money out of them...
