how duplicate is duplicate?

Dear All

recently I bought a adsense ready website. Yes I know they sell it to many people, but the seller assured that he would sell it only to 10 people and I strongly believe that.

Myquestions:

1. I know 9 other people will have the same content as me. So how do search engines recognise duplicate content? and do it matter if it is 2 or 3 or 10 people having the same content.

2. How much editing should be done to be safe? one line in a paragraph. Complete rephrashing of the article? What are your suggestions?

I would just change all the content, thats the easy part. Frankly if i were to buy a site, it would be for just the layout and not the content. It can keep the same niche, just different info. But thats just me.

 

Get it indexed and get more links than the other sites. That way google will think they are copying you.

Maybe use a php search and replace to alter some words for similar words.

 

is it against the TOS to have a turnkey site that is exactly like someone elses?!?

If you can have first and last paragraph made by you which is unique, that will do better..

 

IMO duplicate site are those containing the same content and similar layouts.
Just like they said it better to change the entire content so that it will not be consider it as duplicates of another site.
