there was a demand for forums and dp was one of the few who boomed. now I think people try to recreate a webmaster forum with no success.
DP is very famous because we have world best webmaster team and have a good Admin team. Also we provide free BST section which is one of the biggest and popular marketplace on online community.
I think it was because the forum already have many quality links when it started and some very knowledgeable members from the very beginning. The links gave good SERPS and visitors converted to members because they found many experts around. Thereafter it is a cycle...better content brings more links and more members....more members means more quality content.
Hard work of Shawn!! good poster's like above and lot of contributors... but in my opinion most amazing feature is adsense revenue sharing feature!!!
It's all about building a great base of frequent contributors. If people view your site as being most helpful, they'll keep coming back. That's why I use DP 20-1 over Sitepoint ... I get answers FAST, and they're far more relevant. If you're looking to build a great forum, you need to have a base of members (or yourself) that are able to provide users with what they want very quickly. If someone doesn't get what they need within a few minutes, they've probably already moved elsewhere. Anita
Because of - helpful members like me - a great marketplace - great supporting moderators - instant internet happenings posted here and updated - Adsense Revenue sharing forum - top webmasters on internet are members here like shoemoney etc.
Yea did anyone notice the Alexa Ranking that DP had I was checking over the list and found DP in like 31st...That really shocked me.Because this is just a forum.lol... But it's a very good forum.
Because DP has a very hottttttt Marketplace. The proof is: In DP all forums have no more than 10k threads. And DP's Marketplace (BST) forum got 80k threads ...
Is the revenue sharing really that big of a deal to people? I think I've received 10 clicks, and have made less than $0.30. Even if I were a top DPer and posted 20,000+ posts, extrapolating my current earnings would give me $18. Sure, that would pay for a lunch, but not really anything to get excited about after the 2,000+ hours of posting to hit 20,000 posts.
Probably because users like me got tired of non-moderation and spam on other forums. I was super active on one of the other forums - i won't say the name - but got tired of spam posts. I surfed this for a month or so and saw moderation to be quite good - no BS.
How did it become famous? I ran naked across the field w/ "forums.digitalpoint.com" painted on my body at the 2004 Super Bowl.
