    Hi there

If I type in Wordtracker's search box 'home business' and it shows me 1211 results for this term what does that mean ?

That there are 1211 people are searching everyday 'home business' ?

Please advise as I am no expert :)

No, not exactly but it means that on average that is the strike rate for the word searched in the search engine. It is never the exact figure but an estimated value.

I recommend going to their help pages and reading for a bit first. I can write the whole thing here, but it's not worth reinventing the wheel. They have a pretty good help database which explains everything in detail and have a sleuth of FAQs.

wordtracker.com/index.php?pg=documentation. On the right hand side, they also have a link to their knowledge base.

What are the search engines that WordTracker are basing their results on?

Remember that the numbers are sometimes affected by webmasters doing their own keyword research, seo efforts and other things will inflate the numbers meaning they are not all naturally searched.
