When Twitter gives your links a "No follow" attribute rendering them uncrawlable? I understand that Twitter can be a valuable method for promoting your website and hopefully increasing your unique visitors. But- it seems that most people are using it for the exact same reason, to promote their own site as opposed to actually reading other people's posts. (I apologize if this question is beating a dead horse but there are many differing views on this.)
I'm pretty sure it is about generating traffic. I don't think you genereate inbound links from Twitter, except from maybe the one in your Bio. I also agree that it seems like everyone on Twitter is there simply to promote their own website, and do not even bother reading other Tweeters Tweets.
To the some extent i agree with Behnam1123, That "everyone on Twitter is there simply to promote their own website".But in other hand there is posibility to get a link, if some one would interested on your site. Over all working with twitter is hearmless.Posibility of getting profit out of that.

well twitter will not give you backlinks but there are thousands of members who are ready to read what you posted definitely "yes" but it depends on the quality or interest of your post. This can generate more traffic to your website....i have my own experience and i have successful website.....
Twitter directly can't help for SEO It's give you good traffic, there is no SEo Profit by any of Social networking site it only gives you traffic
"everyone on Twitter is there simply to promote their own website" So the way to get traffic is try to get many followers as you can
If you add services like twitterfeed or tweetmeme to your website , each link get posted on twitter as tweet ... this in turn creates a backlink for each of your post and thus i guess its thumbs up your SEO ...
