Hi guys, My Topic title there kind of sucked, but its hard to explain, I want to know how this site here: http://links.scrabblestop.com/details/2841.html can see that www.online-stopwatch.com is owned by www.itsall3.com I have a link to online-stopwatch on itsall3, but there are loads of backlinks to the site. i dont mention either site in the meta data. The only thing i do is host them both with dreamhost, but i have lots of sites that are in the same account, and they are not mentioned... Any ideas??? Cheers.
A reverse IP look shows you potentially own: 1. blennsworld.com 0 listings 0 listings 2. blennteez.com 0 listings 0 listings 3. bloggertemplates.org 0 listings 0 listings 4. crazydn.com 0 listings 0 listings 5. depotmuseum.net 0 listings 0 listings 6. dotbidz.com 0 listings 0 listings 7. farnsworthmayflower.com 0 listings 0 listings 8. farnsworthmoving.com 0 listings 0 listings 9. glasshouseworld.com 0 listings 0 listings 10. jennyandjasonwedding.info 0 listings 0 listings 11. johnkramlich.com 0 listings 0 listings 12. linuxbeta.net 0 listings 0 listings 13. m80photography.com 0 listings 0 listings 14. m80photos.com 0 listings 0 listings 15. meighty.com 0 listings 0 listings 16. naturallybeemers.org 0 listings 0 listings 17. nextgengear.com 0 listings 0 listings 18. online-stopwatch.com 0 listings 0 listings 19. panchal-samaj.com 0 listings 0 listings 20. peterschmalfeldt.com 0 listings 0 listings 21. projectstrip.com 0 listings 0 listings 22. roadkill-clan.com 0 listings 0 listings 23. savageclothingco.com 0 listings 0 listings 24. swark.net 0 listings 0 listings 25. swark.org 0 listings 0 listings 26. terratem.com 0 listings 0 listings 27. tiptoptalks.com 0 listings 0 listings 28. ywampoland.com
Thats amazing! I dont actually own any of them, except the www.online-stopwatch.com But i dont really understand? So does that mean, say, google associates my site with them sites? i didnt know sites could be linked like that. Thanks cianuro, (can you tell me how you checked that?)
No, Google uses a much more advanced method to identify domains you are associated. Well more than a reverse lookup. There is a lot of talk about it since Matt Cutts' open panel "quick search". It's all over the search engine marketing websites. Oh, and to check: http://www.domaintools.com/reverse-ip/?hostname=online-stopwatch.com
You are looking at a listing in a directory. Did you submit both sites to the directory? If so, did you use the same e-mail address when submitting? Listings do not just show up in directories. Someone has to submit the data or the directory owner gets it from another source.
Hi TechEvangelist, i found that site in a list of places people have visited my site from using statcounter. I did pay for both sites to be submitted to directories, so maybe the person who did it used the same email address. Thanks for your help. i never thought about them being linked like that either!
This would be the most logical thing. It could be a script that compares IPs and the name of the person that regisered the domain. But that would be too slow and complicated, so I think it's what Seiya said.
Hi there, I own this site and this is exactly what happened. The two listings are linked because the submitter used the same email address. My site is not pyschic, I wish it were I'm glad you're getting traffic from it, though!
hey just think if Google and Yahoo are displayed as owned by Microsoft ... jokes .. Most of us would have heart Failure on hearing that News.
So potentially you could get a lot of false positives with that. I mean, if a lot of people outsource to the same directory submission company, and they use the same email address to submit loads and loads of sites over time, it could end up a bit misleading.
