How does the vatican react to the systematic abuse of children by clergy?

They say it's not as bad as abortion.

When are these disgusting animals going to put their hands up and admit that atrocities were committed against children on their watch? it seems they can't open their mouths without trying to down-play, sweep under the carpet or trivialise the systematic rape of children by clergy in catholic institutions.

Is it really too much to ask them to accept responsibility and vow to bring to justice, real justice, every last member of the clergy who is guilty of these disgusting crimes? is it too much to ask them to promise to correct the errors that allowed these paedophiles to operate within the church? is it too much to ask them to unreservedly apologise for trying to cover up decades of child abuse by moving paedophile priests to different churches to rape again?

Why aren't people, catholics especially, absolutely outraged, demanding answers and pulling them up every time they try to down-play the rape of children?
