How does the PayPal security key work?

    I have the PayPal security key (the card one) and I've always wondered how it works...Like it has to communicate with the computer somehow...right? And will it work if it's used like 20 miles away from the comp? It's intriguing. So can anyone explain it to me?

    Not really. I know what it is and what it does. I've had one for 6+ months and I'm familiar with it. I'm just curious how Paypal knows what code my key has generated? And will it work if it's inside a lead case so no signals can get in or out? How does it work?
