How does the Forum "search' work?

I was viewing a new thread when my browser crashed. After I reloaded my browser I tried to find the thread I had been reading. I couldn't quickly find it in either new posts or in today's post. But I knew that one of the words in the title of the thread was "Value". So I thought no problem I'll just search for it. However when I searched for it using both "value" and "Value" both search reported nothing to be found?????

BTW the other interesting thing is that I has originally found the thread from a link on the Link Tracker page. So one would imagine that it was a current thread. Yet I couldn't find it on the first three pages of either "new posts" or "today's posts".

That's wierd. I tried it and it doesn't even find your post here... even when I specify you as the author. I usually use the boolean version of the search since I get way to many results the other way... but it looks like it's acting up right now.

The search engine will automatically cut out words that would otherwise yield so many results it deems them useless (unnecessary load on the database server for example to search on the word "the", pull up 250,000+ posts, sort them, etc.)

To be honest though, I wouldn't think "value" would have exceeded that threshold. I'll check into it and see if that word really is used THAT much. The word "shawn" yields results, and I bet that is used more in posts. I know MySQL has some common words it doesn't index by default. Maybe it's one. Anyway... I'll check it out.

    Nope, it indexes 'value'.

But the search has seemed kind of screwy for the last week or so.
