How Does StumbleUpon Network Work? What's it Mean?

    When I look at my SU profile, there is always a random number for network. I have 33 friends, but network says 11, and network just shows latest visitors, friends of friends, and similar stumblers. What does the number beside network in the nav bar mean?

    Stumble Upon is a social media site if you don't know that...

    Anyway, on the nav bar there are links to profile, pages, friends, and network, and next to the network is a number. That number is what my question is about.
