How does Stumble Upon work? Newbie question

Discussion in 'All Other Search Engines' started by parsifalia, Jan 19, 2008.

A lot of posters on DP seem to use Stumble Upon. Their site isn't very clear to me - it seems to be a sort of directory, but I can be wrong

Can anyone tell me what their purpose is and if it is benefic for traf?

Sorry if the question seems stupid to some...

EDIT: Seems to be the wrong forum ... shows how confused I am ... do I have to move this thread manually, or is this done by mods???

You can add the stumbleupon toolbar to firefox as a plugin. Be prepared to spend hours if you actually click the "stumble" button - it can get addictive. There's a thumbs up button for sites you like and a thumbs down button for sites you don't like. If you accidentally rate a site, you can undo it by clicking the other thumb (up or down). In addition to voting for a site, stumbleupon keeps a list for you to find the sites again.

Yep, seems the site is down for the moment - but the link sounds satisfying to me, i'll retry later.

(Off Topic, Asbestos, you do have a very valuable name and title in the high paying keywords domain - any stats/results you can share with us???)

Navigator is outdated and no longer supporter. Try using Firefox, I can guarantee you'll like it.

I wrote this a while back it is the basic steps to using Stumble Upon. It answers some of your question. You get some traffic but normally it is just click through unless you offer something of interest that will catch people. The conversion rates for ads are low off Stumble traffic but it is free and any chance to get traffic is good.

IMO Stumble is crap!! I submitted 5 different links to tutorials I had written on 3D modelling.

I got maybe 1 or 2 hits in total (after 2 weeks!!!!!!).

I think the tags used is most important. You must no only used tag according to your keywords but also use popular tags in stumbleupon. This way you will get better traffic

Wow, it must not be a very popular topic. I always get at least a 1000 hits the first day i stumble and it slows from there. I have never had only 1 or 2 on any of my articles.

It basically depends on what tags you stumble for. Basically what happens, is you put in your interests, and then you hit the stumble button on your tool bar and you get taken to a site that has been tagged with one of your interests. The more thumbs up for that site, the more people that get sent there

Stumble Upon is the well known bookmark of all... I was widely use by most of the internet users... When you stumble your site, surely you'll have a huge traffic specially if you maximize the 200 person limit of friends. If you'll add up a friend, look for those ou think will be interested on your site (look at their interest).

One more advantage to Stumble upon - when user see you site in Google listings a nice gold star is shown by your site.

These stars are seen by everyone with the SU toolbar.

Stumbleupon is probably one of the best sites out there to get extra traffic.
However, if your article/pages/sites are not tagged correctly, do not expect to get targeted traffid :D
