How does a site like this one, funnylogo.info, get so much traffic with an Alexa ranking of 8,000. This is no big of a site, but look at all that traffic. How in the heck can a site like that get loads of traffic?
You should not worry about these crappy sites, in the long run quality/genuine sites will prevail and these crappy sites will die as they have no active user base.
Nofull, how does he get linkbacks? Gameover, if they have no active user base, how are they now getting so much traffic?
By marketing a service which will be used over and over again by one user, to some point making it addictive to the user.
Active user base and one off visitors are completely different things. If someone is ranked high in google but is a totally crap site, after a while the site will have built up a bad name for itself so in future users do not click on the site but on competitors meaning less revenue for the crap site and more revenue for the good sites to make their sites even better however my main point is to stop worrying about crap sites and go and make a awesome good quality site
I am not worrying about it. I am just curious as to how those sites, which I would not call crap, but rather nothing special sites, get so much traffic. If I could get that much traffic with such a site, I would go for it. Of course, I could buy them as they are up for sale. However, my concern is that perhaps they are using something tricky to get traffic which I would not be able to sustain as owner. If this is so, I was hoping that a poster could comment on how they are able to do that.
Funnylogo does less than 20,000 a month. For the other site, it's the same answer as what was in your other thread, and will be on your next thread on this. It has nothing to do with seo, link exchanging, submitting to social networks, or whatever. Only advertising and word of mouth can bring in the kind of traffic these sites are doing that you have posted about. What, you think there is some sort of secret these sites are doing? Nope. It's no mystery.
see the service they are offering is kind of interesting for those new internet surfers they love to come back to such sites and in turn the traffic does increase plus many times MANY new bloggers to write about these...... I hope I was write.. just check this http://www.google.com/search?q=link:www.funnylogo.info
Perry, thanks for remembering me from my other post about this. In regards to word of mouth, I don't see how that would work with sites like those. They seem poorly designed, hard to navigate and the content is nothing great. Now if those sites had content worth bookmarking and visiting daily, ok I'll buy in, but not with these ones. Hence, I am so curious. Another site I find interesting is tonzofstuff.com. It was getting a heck of a lot of traffic for quite some time with no apparent updates for ages. Then out of the blue the traffic practically overnight took a nosedive. What do you think happened there? Why was a site with little or no updates for over a year have for over a year high traffic numbers? Then all of a sudden practically no traffic at all.
I agree. I took a look at them just now. heh The shit people put up, huh? But I meant, basically word of mouth in general with many sites. DigitalPoint is a good example. An old reader of mine told me about this site, and I have told, who knows how many of my other readers about this place. As for tonzostuff, they probably simply just stopped or slowed their advertising down. Probably. I stopped mine to revamp my site, and my traffic, what little of it there is because I am just starting out with this World Wide Web stuff, took a nosedive too. A lot of sites either stop or slow their advertising down for some reason. I knew one webmaster who stopped it altogether due to family crisis and had to leave his site for a couple of months. Doing free methods of bringing in traffic can bring in just so much. Maybe a few thousand a day, if that. But when a webmaster has hundreds of thousands of hits, consistently, you know he is doing advertising. And when it drops, it's a pretty good guess that he has either stopped or slowed it down. Askmen.com is a real good example. I know they do massive advertising, they always have, and they slowed their advertising down, and their numbers went down quite a bit. The questions you should be asking are where are they advertising, and who are they using. If it works for them, it just might work for you.

That makes the most sense to me. Do you have any idea where they go for advertising and how much it costs? I also wonder to what extent the loads of traffic is worth in comparison to what is spent on advertising to get that load of traffic.
Well, a big site like Askmen and About, for examples, I have no idea. Yes, they get a lot of hits from the engines, but not tha much to equal the amount of traffic they get. Especially About. Those rat bastards get over 20 million hits a month! I'd love to know who they use and how much they spend! I could never find that out. Every now and then I get lucky by typing in the site's name, along wth another keyword, like "advertise," and then the name of the advertising servcie the site deals with comes up. I type in a slew of different keywords to find such info. But, mostly with a lot of sites, they look for other sites to advertise on. They create a few ads, and start looking, like I do.
The only way they do get traffic is with the right promotion my friend. As for example, the logo one is very useful for a newbie webmaster.... and whenever they do the google search most probably it comes up at first. Easy logo online is one of the most searched terms I believe.
They have spent a lot of bucks (as much I know who marketed it if I am correct)....Although the site is not so ineresting but it has some kinda unique content that attracts new visitors. As well, while marketing you need to keep in your mind that, the site should be marketed along to it's theme..If you put such sites in stumbleupon or digg then surely you will get negative feedback as the users of these sites know about website strategy very well and adsense CTR and other CTr also converts very less. But this website used the way where newbie comes over and stick to their website for 2-5 months and after when they know true way of googling than they leave such websites. correct me if I am wrong
