How does PR go up and down?

I recently had witnessed a website go from PR4 to a PR0 in the past week. I wasn't sure how it happened, but it did. So what are the factors that cause a PR loss, and how does it happen?

Also, what would it take for a PR5 to progress into a PR7? If you have 10,000 backlinks, and over 7,000 pages indexed in Google, and a PR5 homepage, what does it take to get a PR7 or even PR6?

    Thanks!

If you loose backlinks you loose PR
And if you gain backlinks you gain PR

Currently a lot members have dropped their PR to 0 - some google updates will be coming, dont worry

i don't think there is any set amount of links i.e if you get 100 pr8 backlinks you get a pr7 site, but if you work on the theory of trying to get links from higher pr site than lower you pr will go up quicker, also it is better to get links from theme related sites, so if you have an art site get high pr art sites to link back to you.

Where did you check your PR? If you only see your PR in google toolbar maybe it's not true. Sometimes google toolbar is not accurate. I agree to them that if you loose quality backlinks expect a decrease in PR.
