I need a new host and a lot of the companies I'm looking at offer Plesk instead of Cpanel. Is it comparable to Cpanel?
I was running Plesk on one of my dedicated servers and it was pretty good but I switched to CPanel because 90% of my hosting clients are more familiar with CPanel. Other than the constant issues with the CPanel license checker causing CPanel to fail at inopportune times (you have to open ports 2087 and 2089 in your firewall), I'm very happy with CPanel.
I am currently running Plesk - and never had a problem with my clients and with my portfolio. If you are new to hosting, I reccommend CPanel as many people are user-friendly to it. Im happy with both Let me know which one you go with...
I totally agree themirzacompany - both are goog, but if you're looking to do web-hosting, go with CPanel... Ugh, but the newest cPanel update sucks...
I am getting another ded server too. I was thinking of getting windows but cpanel isnt available for windows =( The only option left is to get cpanel as my clients would be more familiar with that, but I wouldnt know how to login and use the box which operates under linux. Anyone knows? I would need some experience on using linux.
A lot more people are more comfortable with CPanel, simply as it is more popular. Me included, however as mentioned, the repeatedly license checks are extremely annoying, as they can create downtime. Not good for any site
