One of my mentors always mentions his trip from anonymity to popularity as:

    1. Learn
    2. Teach
    3. Do

It sounds out of order, but when you think about it, it is brilliant. You learn a technique from a reliable source. You start teaching it to others so it locks even deeper into your brain, while you are doing it at the same time.

It would be easy to argue his formula, but he went from a few dollars per month to over $50,000 per month in less than a year. There is a lot more to his methods, but he consistently tells his trainees to follow that path on every item they learn to build their own following.

The term "guru" has become so cringe worthy and overused that I don't think any real marketer in this industry takes the term seriously, anymore. That being said, I would not aspire to become a "guru," but rather a smart, savvy business person.

In your spare time, absorb every little piece of information you can about marketing. Read forums, watch video tutorials, pick up books at your local book store, etc. You have to be willing to learn everything you possibly can.

Try to teach yourself basic things, like learning how to build a simple Wordpress site. You'll almost always need a website for any online marketing venture you pursue and being able to cut costs before you really start making money is extremely beneficial – not to mention you're learning a new skill at the same time.

Once you've learned how to do one thing, move on to something else. Read articles on how to write better copy so you offer your readers more value and have higher converting sites. If you're really ambitious, read up on SEO tactics and how to safely link build so you can start ranking those sites. You can also learn how to create videos to advertise your sites on YouTube. These are all things you can pay a freelancer to do, but when you're first starting out, money can be tight and these skills are things that will stay with you forever.

There is always something new to learn in the marketing world and constantly reading will be your best friend in this industry. After you have the knowledge to start some ventures, it just comes down to motivating yourself and being able to put in hour after hour of hard work to see your business succeed. If you fail, take it as a learning experience and keep going.

After you have a successful campaign, assess why it was successful and scale up. Scaling is the key to making big money – you just have to put in the work. After that, it's all about refining, measuring, split testing, and doing everything you can to squeeze the most money out of your sites.

I personal like the terminology of Guru. I think this nickname appeared in the SEO industry like 4-5 years ago (maybe I am wrong), when panda, penguin where not up yet and SEO was like a real El Nino. I guess Guru, it's one thing that was borrowed from a different industry (health, cinema), because more or less SEO Guru sounds like a bad movie to me.

About those who know how to do that and that I guess it's not something new that they keep the secret for themselves. Why telling to others how I make millions from internet marketing?! Doesn't sounds right.

Twist the methods and keep your own statistics. See the Nordic SEO how it goes. Personal I like it. A lot of transparency but at the same time big difference between .com way of optimization and .de (for example) style, more organized.

There are a lot of people who are gurus because they know something few know and know how to teach it. Others are on their way to becoming a bonified guru. That's how they start being profitable but it comes from the results they get people. Just because somebody is a guru, because of the income level he or she is at doesn't mean they are getting people results.

So many just concentrate on selling products. A lot don't tech what they know, they have a business that across the board does what it needs to do. The real ones dont sell an empty box of air, they sell powerful training to build anything people want. The thing is that the internet is flooded with people just selling something that promises a lot of money.

Good people looking for answers to help themselves do what everybody else does. They think that just because a hundred people are buying it, it must be good. They are told that it's all about the money, and nothing taught on how to get results.

When people just want to make money and dont care about getting people results, they buy and buy and work and work just to make money. They usually fail because they think it's easy just as they were promised. They usually blame the coach or buy something else because the last one didn't work. They go on and on. Becoming a real guru means having a passion to get others results in something and living that passion out. Only when somebody has a passion to help others will they get through the process of learning how to set up a business with the core elements that they work best in.

They teach everything to have a top business and that is all the components that work for them and can teach others how to do the same and choose what works best for them. You see, there are a lot of people who present themselves as a guru, that just had a lot of money to look like one and there are others who have worked hard living a passion to help other people, that can teach and are building an evergreen business.

No fad of the day or system or anything else can do it. But a real guru can attract people to them because of their expertise, get people to become successful because they also teach and guide them in many other ways if they choose. they get repeat buyers over and over without all the fancy sites and promises.

In other words you can see a guru and think they can help and you can see people that you think cant help but teach what does work but for a lot less than others that teach the same thing. You just have to find them. It starts with being in a high demand niche people are competing in. Dont get in something there are no competitors in. Become the best in whatever you do.
