Hi All; I'm trying to build a membership website and people have told me that Joomla works best. I have downloaded Joomla and don't know what to do from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards SEOX
You have to have a local server running on your computer, eg. MAMP, LAMP, WAMP, or XAMPP. Once the server environment is set up just follow the install direction here, http://help.joomla.org/content/view/1939/302/ The general process is set up your local server, create database, run install php, then customize. You can go live and upload the files to your host, but I used the local server example because I guessed you would want to play around with it locally before going live. Ask away.
Then you'll need to install some community component, module, and plugins.. you will find tons of Joomla extensions at extensions.joomla.org send me PM if you need a joomla developer..
If you need membership extensions for Joomla, you need to pay monthly or one-time payment for the installer. There are some free components but doesn't have full features and you may encounter some errors. I have been using and learning Joomla for 4 months and loving it. You can learn it all by yourself with the help from Joomla forums and searching answers to your questions in Google search. Several people would teach you how to do some stuff.
What about your website ? If your site is CMS you can use Joomla or Drupal (Both are very good. They have many components and modules). If you want to use Joomla, i can help you install it.
using community extensions like jomsocial, or you can find it at JED site __http://extensions.joomla.org , just try its guys
Joomla works from a database and the pages are generated dynamically from it. If you want a membership site, use community builder. It is free.
@SEOexpert. If you can manage to send me a PM i can give you whole lots of guides for Joomla. I'll love to help you.
You need to install joomla on your local server after installing WAMP or like softwares. And I think you should go to Youtube for installing joomla as it is a tricky part for new webmasters.
all the above buddies told you is the same I wan't to tell you ......in addition with::: there are two interfaces of your joomla one is frontend(site) and another is backend(for administrator) people see your website's frontend view and we can change this view and add content , control everything...from backend. Backend works as control panel of our joomla website. But in some cases you may need to work without backend.....like migration of website or for any other troubleshooting.
You can always try in at local and upload to server when you feels okay.. So far..i am very happy with joomla..as many free templates and great support from other users
