If you have a hidden backlink from a site will Google count it or dismiss it?

once google discover those links he will disqualify the sites that has the hidden links and so these backlinks won't have value.

A link that does not show up on the site but is hidden in the code using div style="visibility: hidden; display: none"

They will ignore the backlink, and potentially penalize the site giving it.

I have an experience in this. Google simply ignores it.

If it's hidden well enough, it will probably count. That said, a competitor will probably turn you in.

When I first started doing SEO I did use hidden links, and got turned in and banned from Google. After getting back in, I dropped that tactic.

Sure is, i been watching one site for a while who are using links/keywords in a 1x1px footer marquee and doing real well, and others using tricks like visibility hidden etc.

Also another high profile site blatantly useragent cloaking, complete with sitelinks, sub 20k Alexa.

There's also many legitimate uses of hidden links, like being triggered on an event.

hidden links are a disaster for you. Never try to hide things from google. If you want to have a link, use it on your website and promote it. Having two or three relevant outbound links from your site only helps.
For eg. my travel site has a outbound link to a Travel ticket reservation site. This helped not onkly my website but also gave a Pr 2 to the other site, which initially was at 0.

There is a difference between using visibility:hidden and making 1x1 pixel. Google also sees them as different. If they have visibility hidden, then google will not count it but if it is just very small then yes google will count it as a link.

    Hope this helps

Hidden links are strictly no no in white hat methods.
Use nofollow tag if you have to use them.

It's not worth getting penalized over. If you have a brand to maintain, don't do it.

As far as I know, Google hates sites with hidden links... they penalize those sites in most cases.

This has been clearly mentioned in their webmasters guidelines. If you decide to go against it, you might risk your site getting banned and suffer a drop in ranking.

There is many "legitimate" uses for hidden links, just like there is for cloaking.

It all boils down to what you are doing, and how you are doing it. Saying you will be banned outright for any hidden link or cloaking is just not true.
