How does Google treat a redirected link?

    Hey guys,

I have a page within my site that is PR4 and it has more than 1000 backlinks. I want to change the filename of that page to make it more userfriendly. let's say the name was filename1.html and I change it to filename2.html. Now naturally I don't want to lose all my backlinks, so what should I do? will a simple javascript redirect from filename1 to filename2 do the trick? or do I need to do something else for Google to understand they it needs to transfer all the backlink juice from one page to the other?

    Thanks!

you need to do a 301 redirect from page1 to page2.
if you do a javascript redirect, this means that is a temporary redirect, and you'll loose your rankings for that page.

If your website is a Wordpress blog, there are plugins that redirect your old links to the new links. Something like "Permalinks redirect". Google, will be fine with it I guess.

It may reduce the PR of page. So my suggestion dont change it the tarffic which you get for will affect. bcoz google take time to index and check backlinks. So if not necessary don't do it
